Southern Oregon CX Race Nov. 17 – Paul
11.18.12: Jordan,Michelle and I raced the southern oregon CX race at the speedway in Medford on sat. This course is known for being muddy, having lots of flat tires from goat heads and people breaking derailleurs. We experienced all of this. Jordan fell twice on the slick, grassy turns and broke his derailleur in the mud section. All on the first lap. He was disappointed he didn’t get to race the entire race but stuff happens. I had a good start. I got to the slick, grassy section and it was entertaining watching guys sliding out and falling around the turns. I was feeling good with my awesome tubulars and my awesome skills! Which neither of those things helped me on the second lap when I too fell in the slick, grassy turns. The muddy section where Jordan lost his derailleur I rode part way then got off and ran in hopes of preventing anything happening to my bike. The rest of the race went without incident. I ended up 6th overall. This was the last race of the series. I ended up 3rd overall in 35+ A class. Michelle was doing well until she got a flat. She ran 3/4 of a lap with her bike to finish the race. She was 1st in her class in the series.
After t he race we took the bikes to a car wash to get the sticky, medford mud off of them.
These races are a lot of fun and all proceeds go to the Josephine county search and rescue. The people who put it on are really great people. They are well organized and wonderful folks. Everyone should think about doing some of the races next year. That’s it.
