Race Report Jordan Anderson – 7/7/12

My race day was Saturday at 8:15 AM. I raced the CAT 1 Men 19-24. We got there at 7:30 so I could get a good warm up in, and then headed to staging. It was a really fun course with tons of single track, 8 miles of fast, flowy, DH single track, and 3000 feet of climbing. It was about a 20 mile lap. The race started around the base of Sun Valley Ski Resort by the lodge. We did a short start loop around the area which lead onto the actual course. I was sitting in the top five during the first 3-4 miles which was just on a flat road/trail, and then we started climbing and I fell back to about 15th. Once the fire road climb was over and the single track climb began, I was able to recover and pick up my pace. It was a pretty mellow climb with a few short steep pops, about 7 miles. I finished the climb and started the DH (which was perfect because it rained the previous night), didn’t catch anybody on the first portion of DH but passed a few guys that flatted, and then hit the first short climb of the DH. Finished that and continued the DH where I passed a lot more guys with flats and caught a few riders. There was another short climb which lead to the last portion of race and DH, I knew it was the home stretch so I just looked ahead and hammered away. I finished a little under 10 minutes off the leader, but missed the top 5 podium by 3 minutes. My goal was top 10 out of the 20 riders,  I finished 8th so I’m pretty happy! All in all I had a blast. Thanks Owens for making this possible for us!

Race Report Brandon Dillard – 7/6/12

I raced on Friday at 11:30. I raced in the cat 1 17-18. I got a good warm up in because I knew the start was going to be another really fast one. In my class there were 63 riders. We had the biggest field in all of the juniors. We had to do the pro course which is a shorter lap course but it’s much harder than the course you climb strait up the ski lift. It’s about 32% grade the whole way up, then you have a super fun down hill all the way back into the venue! I finished 29th out of 63 riders. I was hoping for a top 15, but, oh well, I was still having a blast riding in Idaho itself. Thank you to the Owens Healthcare team and everyone  for making this possible for me!

Tom Dillard Race Report – 7/5/12

Had my race today at Sun Valley. Got a good start ran third for the first three miles which was pretty flat. Then we hit a fire road which was like going up South Fork. I’m not a good climber, but  I thought  I should go hard to see if  I could hold off the fast guys. It worked for a couple of miles, then we got off the fire road and hit single track climbing which went on for  eight miles. I was still  in the top ten at the top. Then it was some great  single track down hill, but with about nine miles to go still. I got a flat, the stands would not seal the hole so I stopped to put a tube in. Got going then got another flat; had a tube, but no air so I waited for some one to come by who had a co2. Got going and finished the race in twenty third place out of twenty five. Had a great day, and would like to see the team come up here next year to do some riding.
